Split This Rock Poetry Festival: Poems of Provocation & Witness invites poets, writers, and activists to Washington, DC, for poetry, community building, and creative transformation as our country continues to grapple with a crippling economic crisis and other social and environmental ills. The festival will feature readings, workshops, panel discussions, youth programming, film, activism –- opportunities to imagine a way forward, hone our activist skills, and celebrate the many ways that poetry can act as an agent for social change.
We invite you to send proposals for panel discussions, group readings, roundtable discussions, workshops, and small-scale performances on a range of topics at the intersection of poetry and social change. Possibilities are endless. Challenge us. And spread the word!
NEW DEADLINE: June 30, 2009. Click here for full details and the proposal form.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Humanities Council of Washington, DC, Split This Rock is working with Chris Flaherty of SandyBeagle Productions to produce a documentary based on the inaugural Split This Rock Poetry Festival. Several clips are now online at YouTube.com. Visit our Videos page to see what we're up to.
Split This Rock depends on a strong financial foundation. Your funds will help support grassroots outreach, communications, and planning for the 2010 festival and other programs. They will help us create a stable organization you can count on to serve your interests as a socially engaged poet. Gifts of any size will be deeply appreciated. We hope you'll consider giving $50, $100, or more. The Institute for Policy Studies is still accepting donations on our behalf.
