Split This Rock's Commitment to Accessibility

Split This Rock is committed to making the 2016 Split This Rock Poetry Festival as accessible as possible.

As stated within our core values: “Split This Rock values individuals of all abilities and strives to make its programs and materials accessible to all.”

Our goal is to present a festival and other programs that are inclusive of all and include no barriers to participation. As a tiny non-profit organization operating within a world that often is not accessible, we know that it is not realistic to promise 100% accessibility. However, we pledge to do our best.

Here’s what we can promise: We have designed the organization’s website, www.SplitThisRock.org, to be ADA compliant. When online forms are not accessible, we offer alternate ways of submitting poems or proposals. Venues for Split This Rock events are wheelchair accessible. Large-print and braille program books will be available at the festival. We are also striving to have ASL interpretation available at the festival. We have in the past been able to provide volunteer guides and other support and will strive to do so again, upon request.

Split This Rock welcomes our sisters and brothers with disabilities as organizers, volunteers, featured poets, presenters, and participants. We invite our full community to help in making our work available and accessible to all.

We welcome nursing mothers and parents with babies under the age of 1 to join us for the festival. In doing so, we trust parents to consider their infant's disposition and use discretion to avoid causing a distraction during activities.  For help finding a private space for breastfeeding, parents may visit the information table at the Human Rights Campaign.

The Festival is a  **Fragrance-free** space. Guests are asked to please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or other synthetically scented or perfumed products including clothing freshly laundered with chemical detergents. Thanks!

If you have any accessibility needs, comments, and or questions, please let us know at poetryfest@splitthisrock.org, or call (202) 787-5210. If the online festival registration form is not accessible to you, it is available to be downloaded as a hard copy in Word or as a PDF.
