Split This Rock's Commitment to Accessibility

Split This Rock is committed to making Split This Rock Poetry Festival 2020 as accessible as possible.

Accessibility is a core value for Split This Rock. We strive to provide programs, materials, and communication that allow people within the disability community to engage fully.

Our goal is to present a Festival and other programs that are inclusive and include no barriers to participation. As a tiny non-profit organization operating within a world that often is not accessible, we know that it is not realistic to promise 100% accessibility. However, we pledge to do our best and continually improve our efforts.

Here’s what we can promise: We have designed the organization’s website, www.SplitThisRock.org, to be ADA compliant. When online forms are not accessible, we offer alternate ways of submitting poems, registration, or proposals. Venues for Split This Rock events are wheelchair accessible. Large-print program books will be available at the Festival by request. Featured poet readings will include ASL interpreters. We have in the past been able to provide volunteer guides and other support and will strive to do so again, upon request.

Split This Rock makes it a priority to include people with disabilities as organizers, volunteers, featured poets, presenters, and participants. We ask all Festival attendees, presenters, and featured poets to help in making our work available and accessible to all by following shared practices, including using microphones for all sessions.

The Festival is a **Fragrance-free** space. Guests are asked to please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or other synthetically scented or perfumed products including clothing freshly laundered with chemical detergents. Thanks!

It is important to us that the Festival is also financially accessible. We offer a Festival Registration Subsidy Fund to defray or waive registration costs for anyone who would not otherwise be able to attend. Additionally, people who sign up to volunteer at the Festival for 3 1/2 hours or more receive free registration.

If you have any accessibility needs, comments, or questions, please let us know at access@splitthisrock.org or (202) 787-5210. We ask that accommodation requests for Split This Rock Poetry Festival be submitted by February 28 or sooner. Advance notice allows us to seek out and offer more options for accommodation requests.
