Split This Rock will enter a fallow season on July 1, 2021, and all of our external programming and publishing efforts are on pause until April 1, 2022. We’re excited for time to dig into deeper wells of creativity for: 1) expanding the organizations’ capacity for working towards liberation; 2) defining more concretely what working towards liberation means at Split This Rock; 3) increasing the impact of our poetry, resistance, and community building offerings; and 4) more deeply aligning the organization’s mission with its systems, protocols, and practices. Split This Rock Poetry Festival: Poems of Provocation & Witness 2020 will be held on March 26-28, 2020 -- and it's important to us that the gathering's cost isn't prohibitive. We are happy to offer a registration subsidy fund to defray the cost of registration fees for anyone who would not otherwise be able to attend. Awards are made on a rolling basis, so be sure to apply early.

Awards from the subsidy fund are given based on economic need. Split This Rock is committed to assembling a diverse group of participants at its poetry festivals. Priority is given to youth and seniors, poets and activists of color, disabled poets and activists, SGL/LGBTQ+ poets and activists, undocumented poets and activists, and poets and activists from within other groups experiencing structural and historical violence.

Awards cover the cost of registration only. Low-cost housing options are posted on the Where to Stay page of our website.

  • FOR ONLINE OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS: FEBRUARY 21, 2020
  • FOR MAILED APPLICATIONS: POSTMARK NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 14, 2020
     

HOW TO SUBMIT A REQUEST

To apply, complete the online request form at Submittable. If Submittable is not accessible to you, you may submit your request by email or mail. Include the following in your emailed or mailed request: 

  • Your name
  • Your full contact information (mailing address, email, and phone number)
  • A paragraph of no more than 150 words that briefly shares why you want to attend the 2020 Poetry Festival and the reason(s) you are requesting a subsidy. Though it is not required, feel free to include any relevant information about your background and organizational affiliation as well. Please do not include poems or a résumé.
  • Type of subsidy you are requesting. We offer four options: 1) A full award covering the entire registration fee; 2) 75% off the registration fee; 3) Half off the cost of registration; 4) 25% off the registration fee

If requesting by email, send your request by email as an attached Word document to poetryfest@splitthisrock.org with the subject: SUBSIDY REQUEST - [YOUR NAME]

Applications will be approved on a rolling basis, with an absolute postmark deadline of February 14, 2020. Please apply early, as subsidies will be awarded on a rolling basis.
